Who are Intellectual Prostitutes? We know physical prostitutes. What is Intellectual Prostitution?

I meet a webmaster today. He is the webmaster as well as editor to a growing and popular(?) web portal.

He is promoting the web portal for the last five years. As on date there are five thousand visitors per day to the web portal, he is maintaining. He told me that there were less than ten visitors to the site four years back.

I asked him, how had he increased the visitor count by curiosity. Here is the story.

He write what is interesting to him. He publish what makes him enjoy to write. Over a period of time, there are visitor to his few articles. Assume that he has written around hundred articles. Out of hundred three or five articles draw visitors from search engines. He does not know why or how search engines sending visitors to his few but not all articles.

Anyway, he keeps writing what is passionate to him.

The portal owner, appointed a SEO specialist to improve the traffic to his website.

After, analyzing the site for few weeks, the SEO person suggested what are the topics has to be written.

For example:

Editor is passionate with a cricketer. He write about cricketer's batting style, technique, consistency in the form and physical fitness.

Editor expressed all his thoughts over his favorite player. Next, he write about his interesting topic in the history, universe, spirituality and various things which are interested to him.

But the SEO asked him to write more about the cricketer like player's family details, his personal habits, his day to day activities, create rumors or gossip over the player, even when is he going to toilet.

Editor denies that he is not interested in those things.

SEO said that people are grace at this cricketer, more 'searches' happening in internet for this player. People coming to this portal to read the article he has written to analyze the player's skill. So, if they have more contents about the player, visitors will read all the contents related to the player. This will create more page views and SEO related buzz.

The portal owner need traffic. He instructs the editor that either write about topics irrespective of his interest or quit. Editor needed the job very badly.

Editor said to me that by writing subjects irrespective of his interest, he feel himself as prostitutes. A sort of intellectual prostitutes.

Prostitute have sex with men irrespective of her interest. She is ready to have sex with anybody. So, she has 'traffic'.

Editor concluded me, " I have become an intellectual prostitute to improve the traffic to the website. I can write about anything irrespective of my interest. So our portal has traffic. I am paid to be a prostitute. I support my family by doing intellectual prostitution".

If you are doing something, but you are not interested to do it, at the same time, you are not able to say 'No', you are a prostitute either intellectually or physically.

Everybody in life, become prostitute some time or always for our survival and success.
